Welcome to class

Welcome to GID299 Portfolio & Production, Spring 2018

This is where, as part of the requirements for this class, you will post your work and receive individualized feedback - from me and your peers. You are required to post at least once a week and comment on at least 2 other student's work. This is a great way to get quick feedback for your work, allowing it to progress, develop, and be the best design work you can produce. I'm looking forward to what the class will do with this space this quarter!

How to participate in the blog:
1. Procure a gmail account
2. Bring your gmail to class so I can add you, as an author, to this blog
3. Post once a week, and comment at least twice a week. Grade is based on participation
4. Add a label (keywords) to your post if you want to appear in web searches

NOTE: this blog will only upload web-based file formats (jpeg, png, gif)

To start things off, I'll post a recent project of mine below. Please leave a comment.

Project Brief: Client is local on-ground cafe and catering (mainly flight services out of Logan Airport) who wanted a contemporary re-branding that combines both services and would be used as product labels, outdoor signage, and website. Notice the typographic character inside the red circle... a combination of both C and A.

  1. I really like how the center circle is the only element that uses color and I especially like how the "a" in the circle uses the same "c" from the word "chef" to create the character; the whole circle becomes the focal point which is really clever.

  2. The combination with both the c and a add a unique characteristic to the design. Also adding the A in a red circle really emphasizes the A and shows importance of the letter. I believe the sign is well thought out because from far away someone would be able to recognize the sign and business.

  3. Nice use of the color red to create a focal point to the center of the design. It was very clever to combine the C and the A to create a unique and eye catching element. The only suggestion I could make is finding a way to center the illustration in the middle of the design so that the sign is balanced on both sides and the illustration is not leaning more to the left side.

    1. Johnathan - good eyes! That was something I struggled with, and never DID find a solution for to my complete satisfaction.

  4. Chef Allan's Cafe and Catering logo makes sense with the business they are running. The logo is brought together well with the first letter in chef and the A in Allan's to give it a great look.

  5. The contrast of the red on the white really draws your eye. The A in the middle showing the c inside the a was well done.
